Dr. Ruiz Manzano studied Biochemistry as an undergraduate at Universidad Pais Vasco and went on to get a Ph.D. in Biochemistry with Fernando Rojo at the Centro National de Biotecnología in Madríd. During her postdoctoral work with Caroline Kane at Berkeley, she studied the function of TAF14, a yeast protein present in several chromatin remodeling complexes and multi-subunit transcription factors. She then spent two years working with Karla Neugebauer at the Max Planck for Cell Biology and Genetics studying the connection between RNA polymerase elongation rates and splicing. She has been a member of the Galburt lab since 2009.
